Press Release: Vela Issues Statement on the Vice President's Trip to El Paso, Texas

Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34) issued the following statement in response to Vice President Harris' trip to El Paso, Texas:

"The Biden-Harris Administration understands that the border is critical to the U.S. economy, trade and bilateral relations between our two countries. I applaud Vice President Harris for traveling to El Paso, a vibrant border community much like my own, to see first-hand the efforts of local law enforcement and nonprofit organizations in welcoming and helping process immigrants in search of a better life.

"Critics of the Vice President's trip to El Paso are totally oblivious to life on the border. This administration has made tremendous progress in legally and humanely bringing order and control to the border after four years of cruelty and chaos. As someone who represents a border district, I find it appalling that Republican colleagues, and also some Democrats, would demonize the Vice President's trip to El Paso. It's time to address this issue once and for all, and Vice President Harris' visit to El Paso is an important step in accomplishing that."
