Congressman Cleaver Applauds $3.3 Million Grant to KCATA for the Acquisition of Electric Buses

Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) applauded the United States Department of Transportation's (USDOT) allocation of $3.3 million to the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to purchase electric buses. This investment will aid in the KCATA's effort to shift towards a cleaner, more energy efficient transit system. In April, Congressman Cleaver submitted a funding request for $6 million to aid in the acquisition of up to seven additional electric buses on top of the two KCATA currently operates.

"The transition to electric, zero-fare transportation is a step towards environmental and economic justice," said Congressman Cleaver. "People often separate environmental issues from those of economic issues, but they aren't mutually exclusive. As we invest in our infrastructure, boosting job creation and developing communities, we simultaneously foster not only a cleaner, more energy efficient transit system, but a world worth passing on to future generations. It's simple -- this investment in electric transportation is an investment in jobs and a cleaner future. As someone who is constantly fighting to bring home federal dollars, I am thankful that the United States Department of Transportation has awarded this grant to the Kansas City Area Transit Authority."
