Carter Statement on Repealing the AUMF against Iraq

Representative John Carter (TX-31) issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 256, legislation repealing the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) Against Iraq Resolution of 2002.

"While our security threats may have shifted, the need to defend America against our enemies has not. As co-chair of the House Army Caucus and representative of Ft. Hood, I cannot support legislation that repeals this authorization without a thoughtful replacement that addresses America's current national security needs in the region. Instead, Congress needs to work in conjunction with the Department of State, President Biden, the intelligence community and the Department of Defense to provide appropriate guidance in the ongoing fight against terrorism."
