Cassidy Announces $9.8 Million to Rehabilitate Louisiana's Rural Airports

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced airports in 16 parishes will receive $9,843,973 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for taxiway construction, pavement rehabilitation, hangar construction, and more. Airports in Shreveport, Morehouse, Concordia, Acadia, Avoyelles, Jefferson Davis, Jackson, Sabine, Natchitoches, Calcasieu, Webster, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Caddo, and De Soto Parishes will benefit directly from these grants.

"Louisiana's infrastructure is in need of repair -- especially our airports," said Dr. Cassidy. "These projects rebuild and improve regional airports across Louisiana to better serve rural communities."

This grant will provide federal funding for the Shreveport Regional Airport associated with Shreveport, Louisiana. This project also rehabilitates 3,000 feet of the existing Taxiway B pavement that requires rehabilitation to ensure safe airfield operations.

This project reconstructs 1,200 feet of the existing Taxiway B1 pavement that has reached the end of its useful Life, at Natchitoches Regional Airport.

This project rehabilitates 12,700 square yards of the existing north apron to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement.

This project constructs a new 7,500 square foot 6-unit T-Hangar for aircraft storage, maintenance, or service to assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue. The sponsor has adequately financed the airside needs of the airport.

This project constructs 560 foot and 900 foot taxiway turnarounds on the Runway 9/27 ends to eliminate the need for aircraft to back-taxi on the runway.
