U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) voted in support of making Juneteenth a Federal Holiday. Congressman Barr released this statement following the vote:

"On June 19, 1865--two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation--the final enslaved African Americans were liberated by Union troops in Galveston, Texas. With that moment came an end to a horrific injustice in America. I am proud to have voted for this legislation to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday, which will forever commemorate this important day in our nation's history."
