Sens. Reverend Warnock and Ossoff Announce Major Federal Investment in Housing Vouchers for Vulnerable Families, Individuals Across Georgia

Today, Georgia U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, both members of the Senate committee overseeing housing policy, announced Georgia would receive more than $18 million in emergency housing vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help secure housing for approximately 1,300 home-insecure families and individuals. This funding will provide safe housing to Georgians across the state who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness and those who are living in an unsafe or abusive living environment.

The funding is part of HUD's national Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program, a program included in the American Rescue Plan. The program will provide local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) with funding to assist families and individuals who are homeless; at risk of homelessness; fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking; or were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability.

"Regardless of zip code or income, Georgians deserve the opportunity to not just survive, but thrive--and that means having a safe and stable place to live in and call home," said Senator Reverend Warnock. "This funding will provide a tremendous boost to families and individuals across the state navigating housing insecurity and working hard to overcome housing challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis. I am proud to see these federal housing investments directed to Georgian families who need it most."
