Rep. Zeldin Questions Sec. Blinken on Sudden Sanctioning of Former Albanian President

During today's House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) questioned Secretary of State Antony Blinken about the Biden administration's sanctioning of former Albanian President Sali Berisha, an ally to both Presidents Bush and opponent of major Democratic Party donor and progressive activist George Soros, the substantive actions the administration plans to take to gain access to the Wuhan lab and get to the bottom of COVID-19's origins, and whether or not the United States recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Congressman Zeldin specifically pressed Secretary Blinken to provide specific information that details allegations of corruption and justifies the State Department's drastic move to sanction Berisha.

"You recently announced sanctions on the former president of Albania, Sali Barisha. For many, this seemingly came out of nowhere… He was a guest and ally of the Bushes. He was also known to be an aggressive opponent of George Soros. What specific information can you share with the committee at this time to justify this dramatic move," asked Congressman Zeldin.
