Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on the release of President Biden's first full budget:
"President Biden's budget reflects our values and is clear-eyed about the challenges facing our country, from the pandemic, the economy, climate change and ingrained structural racism. By prioritizing programs and funding to help disadvantaged communities and vulnerable populations, President Biden is showing the country how we can build back better with justice and equity as a top priority.
"As our country confronts a multitude of complex domestic and global challenges, Congress has a responsibility to ensure that we robustly fund our national security, even as the cost of doing so rises every year. With ample defense and nondefense spending, we are better able to secure our nation, revitalize our economy, defeat the pandemic and restore U.S. global leadership. Spending on national security and domestic programs are not competing priorities, but should be seen as part of a comprehensive vision for how our country moves forward.
"I'm glad to see President Biden's commitment to both defense and non-defense investment and I will continue to be champion for these initiatives in Congress. Working together, we will rebuild our country, advance equity and progressive change, make our country safer and keep our sacred promise to all those who serve our country in uniform."
