Armstrong Statement on President Biden's Decision to Revoke the "Remain in Mexico' Policy

Congressman Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) released the following statement after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced yesterday that the Biden administration is ending President Trump's "Remain in Mexico' policy.

"With border crossings at a 21-year high, the Biden administration is continuing to dismantle effective and commonsense immigration policies, further endangering law enforcement, residents of border communities, and all Americans. When I visited the southern border in April, both federal and local law enforcement said policies like "Remain in Mexico' and Title 42, both used by the Trump administration to secure the border, are important to ensuring they would not be completely overrun.

We have to do a better job of providing resources to the communities, law enforcement agents, and the people who are dealing with the border crisis. Yet, in the President's more than $6 trillion budget proposal, there is a zero percent increase for Homeland Security funding.

President Biden once said, "Don't tell me what you value, show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value.' In his budget proposal, he makes it clear both to the American people and to those looking to cross our border illegally that his administration does not value border security. Both his recission of important immigration policies and his budget proposal highlight that either the administration is ignorant of the crisis we are facing, or worse, they are completely ignoring the desperate calls for help from those at our southern border."
