CONGRESSMAN HENRY CUELLAR AND SOUTH TEXAS FOOD BANK HELD EMERGENCY MEETING
02/10/2006
Washington, DC - Congressman Henry Cuellar and the South Texas Food Bank called an emergency meeting today to address concerns of the severely depleted food supply for senior citizens in Webb County as a result of national budget initiatives.
The meeting took place at El Concilio Senior Living Community where many of the persons affected by the cuts were present to express their concerns. Congressman Cuellar spoke about the importance of federally funded food programs and addressed constituents' queries at the meeting.
"These new budget cuts affect Americans across the board. Webb County seniors took an especially hard hit when the FY2006 federal budget significantly decreased assistance measures. We cannot allow the national budget to continue to be balanced on the backs of Americans with the greatest need again this year," says Congressman Cuellar. "This meeting served as an opportunity for public officials to brainstorm on ways to react to and reject these drastic budget cuts," he added.
