Congressman Cuellar Announces $436 Million for Local Colleges, Universities, and Students

Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $436,637,708 in emergency funding for colleges, universities, and students in and around Texas's 28th Congressional District under the American Rescue Plan. The funding will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.

The American Rescue Plan provides $36 billion for nearly 3,500 public and private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide.

"The success of our local colleges and universities is critical to the success of our students and to the strength of this community," said Congressman Cuellar. "The American Rescue Plan makes a historic investment that will secure the future of these valued institutions and provide struggling students with urgent relief that will allow them to stay on track and complete their education. I am proud that we were able to deliver this critical support for institutions of higher education and I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for its relentless focus on defeating the pandemic and building back a better economy."

Bexar County:

Northeast Lakeview: $7,779,472

Northwest Vista College: $26,961,264

Our Lady of the Lake University: $6,094,516

San Antonio College: $32,143,060

Texas A&M University - San Antonio: $18,061,798

University of the Incarnate Word: $15,294,334

University of Texas at San Antonio: $86,579,734

University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio: $4,017,841

Webb County:

Laredo College: $26,538,441

Texas A&M International University: $29,210,965

Rio Grande Valley:

South Texas College: $73,866,947

University of Texas Rio Grande Valley: $101,411,829

The American Rescue Plan also includes nearly $3 billion in additional funding -- which will be distributed at a later date -- for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other under-resourced institutions.
