Houlahan Stands Up for Pregnant Workers

Today, Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) helped pass H.R. 1065, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, of which she was also a cosponsor. This bipartisan bill would require employers to make reasonable accommodations in the workplace for pregnant employees to ensure their health and safety. The legislation would also prohibit employers from discriminating against pregnant applicants when hiring, retaliating against workers for requesting accommodation and forcing workers to take paid or unpaid leave if accommodations can be made instead.

"No pregnant woman should face discrimination in the workplace," said Houlahan. "No American should be forced to choose between starting/growing a family and building a career. The two are not mutually exclusive, and it's why I'm working on behalf of pregnant Pennsylvanians to ensure their rights are protected at work. I'm glad to have helped secure bipartisan support for our Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and to send a clear message to pregnant workers across our Commonwealth that your work is valued and your rights will not be infringed upon."
