Congressman Van Taylor Introduces Legislation to Safeguard American Taxpayers The Truth in Taxation Act Requires Explanation of Tax Increases

Today, Congressman Van Taylor (R-TX-03), joined by Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA-46), introduced legislation to protect taxpayers and help hold elected officials accountable.
Congressman Van Taylor said, "The more government spends, the more it takes away from the people it serves." He continued, "Everyday politicians in Washington make decisions leaving American taxpayers to foot the bill. The true cost of legislation is obscured not only for taxpayers but for the very elected officials passing legislation. The Truth in Taxation Act is a simple, commonsense step to help hold elected officials accountable and safeguard taxpayers."
H.R. 3364, the Truth in Taxation Act prohibits Congress from considering any bill, resolution, or amendment which impacts federal taxes or fees unless such legislation includes a statement clearly explaining such increases or decreases.
Lead Democrat sponsor of the bill, Congressman Lou Correa stated, "Transparency. Transparency. Transparency. The American people deserve to know what Washington is doing with their tax dollars, and that's exactly what this bill does. By including proposed tax changes in a bill's title, we can make it easier for hardworking taxpayers to voice their opinion on how their tax dollars are spent. Background
