Sens. Ossoff and Warnock Announce Over $140M to Support Affordable Housing, Strengthen Housing Options for Low-Income Families Across Georgia

Today, Georgia U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock announced Georgia would receive more than $140 million in federal grants to address affordable housing needs across the state. This funding is aimed at providing safe, affordable housing to Georgians who have struggled to keep a roof over their heads amid the economic consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funding comes from the $5 billion HOME Investment Partnerships Program provision included in the American Rescue Plan, created to strengthen affordable housing options and support services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. These grants can be used to help Georgians with low-incomes rehabilitate owner-occupied housing, provide assistance to low-income homebuyers, construct affordable rental housing, expand tenant-based rental assistance to help keep people housed, and provide additional support to those experiencing eviction and homelessness.

"This funding will help people to face and overcome long-standing challenges that have only been exacerbated by this pandemic, and I am proud to see these federal housing investments directed where they are most needed."
