Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Reaction to SOTU

WASHINGTON—Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) offered his reaction to President Bush's State of the Union Address.

"I applaud President Bush for presenting us a bold vision for the United States. Our health care is the best in the world, but our system to provide it is seriously broken. The policies President Bush outlined today will help rein in medical costs and make our health care system efficient and patient-friendly.

"Like with the moon race in the 1960s, leading the push for energy independence not only helps secure our national security but is also good for our economy and prestige by putting the United States at the forefront of energy research and innovation.

"President Bush challenged our nation's imagination and Congress needs to work with him to achieve these great goals.

"The President reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the nation against threats. He is committed to using all legal and constitutional means to thwart terrorism. As he noted, our nation can no longer rely on two oceans to protect us. Iran, al Qaeda, and others pose real threats to the United States and we need to be unified in our efforts to defeat them."
