Congressman Biggs Introduces Stopping Border Surges Act

Today, Congressman Biggs introduced the Stopping Border Surges Act to address the loopholes in U.S. immigration law that are serving as magnets for surges of aliens at the border. This bill fixes problems caused by the Flores Settlement Agreement that prevents DHS from detaining family units for more than 20 days, ensures that unaccompanied alien children are quickly and safely returned home, and promotes increased integrity in the asylum system. Congressman Biggs and supporters of this legislation released the following statements:

"Recent policy decisions by President Biden are encouraging aliens to take the dangerous journey to our southern border. They take this risk to take advantage of the loopholes in our immigration laws. Too often illegal aliens are victims of human trafficking by the cartels that dominate the U.S.-Mexico Border.

"I frequently visit the southern border, and I have witnessed first-hand the negative impacts of illegal immigration. Men, women, and children make the dangerous journey to our southern border only to be abused along the way. Since our immigration laws are unenforced, cartels continue their drug and human trafficking schemes and inflict more harm and danger to our country.

"Instead of building on the work of President Trump to secure our border and enforce our immigration laws, the Biden Administration is focused on appeasing its open-borders supporters. Congress must modernize our immigration laws to address loopholes that are fueling the humanitarian and security crisis at the border.
