Rep. Cleaver Announces Opening of Shuttered Venue Operators Grant Program to Support Local Jobs

United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) is happy to announce the Small Business Administration's Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program will begin accepting applications for relief today. Rep. Cleaver was an ardent supporter of relief for venue operators and additional funding for the program as part of the American Rescue Plan's support for small businesses. The program will provide $16 billion in grants to shuttered venues that have been crushed by the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's no secret that live theaters, museums, and other venues are critical components to local economies throughout Missouri, but especially in the Fifth District," said Congressman Cleaver. "Whether it's the Gem Theater on 18th & Vine, one of our many nationally-recognized museums, or the Davis Theatre in Higginsville, these venues are in desperate need of relief. I'm proud to have fought for this funding for our venue operators, which is a pivotal step toward getting people back in jobs and reviving our economy."

Entities who are eligible to apply include:

Live venue operators or promoters;
Theatrical producers;
Live performing arts organization operators;
Relevant museum operators, zoos and aquarium who meet specific criteria;
Motion picture theater operators; and more.
Venue operators can use the SVOG funding for payroll costs, rent payments, utility payments, worker protection expenditures, and more. To apply, applicants must have been in operation as of February 29, 2020. A venue or promoter who received a PPP loan on or after December 27, 2020 will have the SVOG reduced by the PPP loan amount.
