Rep. Cleaver Announces Missourians on Social Security to Receive $1,400 Direct Payments Beginning Today

Today, United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced Social Security recipients and other Missourians who have not yet received their Economic Impact Payments of up to $1,400 from the American Rescue Plan should expect to see electronic payments deposited into their bank accounts or loaded onto their Direct Express Cards beginning today.

"Thanks to the American Rescue Plan and leadership from the Biden administration, over 150 million Americans have now received their survival check of up to $1,400--and more is on the way," said Congressman Cleaver. "Help is here for Missouri seniors, and I couldn't be prouder to have supported legislation that will deliver this desperately needed relief to families who were crushed by the coronavirus pandemic."

Today's latest round of electronic payments applies specifically to those who receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability (SSDI), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits and who did not file a 2019 or 2020 tax return or use the Non-Filers tool. Most payments will be automatically deposited into bank accounts or loaded onto the Direct Express Cards where they receive Social Security benefits. Those waiting on paper checks or debit cards through the mail should expect to receive their payments over the next several days.

90% of all adults in Missouri are scheduled to receive an Economic Impact Payment thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which Rep. Cleaver supported. Many Missourians have already received their Economic Impact Payment, as the Biden administration today announced the Treasury Department has surpassed 150 million payments processed. However, Congressman Cleaver urges Missourians to use the IRS "Get My Payment" tool to check the status of their payment and/or call his office if they need assistance.

"With 150 million COVID vaccinations administered and 150 million survival checks delivered, it's clear that the American Rescue Plan is working methodically to defeat COVID-19 and uplift Missouri families," said Congressman Cleaver. "As we continue our battle against coronavirus, I will work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure Missouri families and small businesses have the resources needed to ensure a swift and equitable economic recovery."
