Reps Lieu and Deutch Lead Letter to Secretary Blinken on U.S. Support for Libya

U.S. Representatives Ted Lieu (CA-33) and Ted Deutch (FL-22) led a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken laying out how the United States can continue to support a stable political transition in Libya amid the ongoing interagency review of U.S. policy towards Libya.

The letter was signed by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Gregory Meeks (NY-05), Rep. David Cicilline (RI-01), Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37), Rep. Bill Keating (MA-09), Rep. Dina Titus (NV-01), and Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07).

In the letter, the members "encourage the Administration to actively support both the United Nations (UN)-led Libyan peace process and efforts to enhance stability, sovereignty, and good governance in Libya…the U.S. must support the Libyan people as they continue on the path towards national unity, stability, and peace."

In February, Reps. Lieu, Deutch and Malinowski introduced the bipartisan Libya Stabilization Act, legislation that authorizes U.S. support for good governance, anti-corruption, free and fair elections, and economic recovery in Libya, and sanctions individuals who commit human rights violations or support foreign military intervention in Libya.
