Schumer, Clinton Announce Support for New Agreement on Underground Bus Terminal

SCHUMER, CLINTON ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FOR NEW AGREEMENT ON UNDERGROUND BUS TERMINAL

Senators spoke this week with Mayor Johnson and have agreed to support the bus terminal plan

Schumer, Clinton: Now that Mayor, City Council are on board, community is united; Will begin multi-year fight for money

US Senators Charles E. Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton announced today after speaking with Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson that they will support efforts to secure the remaining funds needed to build a bus terminal with underground access in downtown Rochester. The Senators released the following joint statement today:

"Our discussions with Mayor Johnson were both instructive and productive. As we've said on numerous occasions, our primary concern with respect to the bus terminal project was that the community be united behind such a massive undertaking.

"Having spoken with the Mayor, we are convinced that he and the City Council are in support of the project and the community is united. With the community behind the project, we will fully support the project in the Senate.

"The recent GTC vote has come very late in this year's appropriations process and it will be difficult to secure funds, but we will begin the multi-year process of achieving as much of the money as we can. We will be asking for the same amount Rep. Tom Reynolds is seeking in the House, and will work hard over future years to secure as much additional funding as possible."

"We continue to recognize that questions and concerns remain about an undertaking of this magnitude and complexity, and hope that all of the leaders involved will work constructively together to produce the best result for the region."
