Torres Announces More Than $ 450 Million for Inland Empire Schools

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA-35) today announced that school districts across her Inland Empire Congressional District are cumulatively receiving more than an estimated $ 451 million as a result of the Congressionally-passed American Rescue Plan.

The announcement comes during a week that Rep. Torres has focused her efforts on supporting local students.

On March 18th, she worked with NASA to hold a virtual town hall connecting Inland Empire students with astronauts Victor Glover (Pomona native) and Dr. Shannon Walker.

On March 13th, she penned an op-ed in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin outlining many challenges students face as a result of distance learning.

Congresswoman Torres released the following statement:

"I told Inland Empire families relief was on the way when we passed the American Rescue Plan, and just one week later, that support is coming into view," Rep. Torres said. "The funds I'm announcing today will help our schools open back up while keeping our students, teachers and parents safe. While we're used to thinking about this pandemic in terms of how it impacts public health and our economy, the truth is it's also impacting future opportunity for kids of all ages. That's exactly why this funding is so urgently needed, and I can't wait to see it take effect across our region. "

Congresswoman Torres sits on the powerful Appropriations Committee in Congress, which is responsible for allocating all discretionary spending for the federal government.

To date, she has leveraged her position to deliver more than $ 524 million in COVID relief to the Inland Empire.
