WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement on the string of shootings at Atlanta massage parlors that killed eight individuals -- six of whom were Asian women:
"The Asian American community is being targeted and this vile act of hate is not who we are as Americans. Asian Americans have been the target of at least 500 hate incidents just in the last two months. Over the last year, dangerous and dehumanizing rhetoric has been directed at our Asian American neighbors and it is every elected leader's responsibility to denounce it in one voice.
"I'm praying for the families of those who were killed in yesterday's acts of hate and my heart goes out to Atlanta and the wider Asian American community. I will always stand alongside the Asian American community during this difficult time and into the future."
