In a video outside the U.S. Capitol, Rep. Ted Budd (R-NC) called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to remove the militarized fencing surrounding the Capitol complex.

This followed a letter, led by Rep. Budd and co-signed by 41 House members, asking Speaker Pelosi to reconsider the fencing.

Rep. Budd said, in part:

"House Democrats are turning the Capitol into a permanent fortress. The Chinese Communist Party gives their citizens more freedom in Tiananmen Square than American citizens have in Washington. It's unacceptable and it has to stop. I'm calling on Speaker Pelosi to order the removal of this fencing. Enough is enough. It's time to reopen our country and reopen our Capitol."
