Letter to Pioneer Press Editor: Home Heating Costs
Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:25 AM
Dear Letter to the Editor:
The Jan. 17 editorial, "Turn up the dial for low-income heating aid," and the Congressional report it cites point out what any Minnesotan who has opened their heating bill knows too well - home heating costs are going through the roof. Unfortunately, the White House and Congressional Republicans have chosen to cut home heating assistance, while rewarding oil companies with tax give-awayseven as these companies post record profits. More than 300,000 families in our state who qualify for help with their heating bills will be denied, because of Republican cuts. Minnesota families understand well that home heating is not a luxury, it is an absolute necessity. Republican priorities are literally leaving Minnesota families in the cold. Copies of the Congressional report on the impact of home heating costs in Minnesota may be downloaded from my website at www.mccollum.house.gov, or by requesting a copy from my office at (651) 224-9191.
Sincerely,
Betty McCollum
Member of Congress
