Congressman Joe Morelle Appointed to The House of Representatives' Committees on Armed Services, Education and Labor, and Rules

Today, Congressman Joe Morelle announced that he has been appointed to the House of Representatives' Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Education and Labor, and the Committee on Rules. This will be Congressman Morelle's first term serving on the House Armed Services Committee, and his second terms as a member of the Committee on Rules and the Committee on Education and Labor.

"As the son of a Korean War Veteran and life-long Plumbers and Pipefitters union member, I am truly honored and humbled to be appointed to committees that reflect the values that were impressed upon me my entire life," said Congressman Joe Morelle. "Now more than ever, as we continue to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring protections for our students, workers, and military families is essential and I'm pleased that my service on these committees will help advance those goals. I look forward to getting to work to deliver the support and relief Americans desperately need."

The Committee on Armed Services, chaired by Rep. Adam Smith (WA-9), is responsible for funding and oversight of the United States Department of Defense, the branches of the United States Military, and the Department of Energy's national security programs.

The Committee on Education and Labor, chaired by Rep. Bobby Scott (VA-3), has jurisdiction over education and labor matters including oversight over issues related to higher and early education, workforce development and protections, health, employment, labor, and pensions.

The Committee on Rules, one of the oldest standing committees in the House of Representatives, is responsible for deciding what legislation will reach the House floor and be voted on by all members, as well as determining the terms and conditions of debate. It is chaired by Rep. James McGovern (MA-2).
