Press Release

Date: March 3, 2021
Location: Washington, DC

This week, Congresswoman Stefanik cosponsored the Defund EcoHealth Alliance Act, legislation that would prohibit EcoHealth Alliance from receiving federal funding and requires the General Accountability Office to write a report on funds awarded in the previous 10-year period that were funneled to Chinese entities. From 2015-2019, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where the COVID-19 virus may have originated from, received approximately $598,500 from EcoHealth Alliance.

"The COVID-19 virus that has taken more than 500,000 American lives and crippled our economy may have originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. It is absolutely unacceptable for American taxpayer dollars to be funding the lab and any Chinese Communist Party entities, period," said Congresswoman Stefanik.
