Rep. Delgado Discusses Urgent Need for State and Local Funding in Nassau

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) joined Nassau Supervisor David F. Fleming, Jr., Village of Nassau Mayor Robert W. Valenty, Village of East Nassau Mayor Adam Acquario, and Highway Superintendent Fred McCagg for a conversation about how their towns and villages are responding to the coronavirus and preparing for the winter months. The group discussed the urgent need for state and local government funding, resources to support infrastructure and highway maintenance, and expanded access to rural broadband. During the visit, Rep. Delgado highlighted his legislation, the bipartisan Direct Support for Communities Act, which passed the House as part of the Heroes Act and updated Heroes Act, and ensures that every single town, village and hamlet can access federal COVID-19 relief.
"Advocating for our region means showing up and meeting with folks on the ground who are doing the work every day to make sure our communities have the resources they need to respond to this pandemic. I appreciate the opportunity to connect with Supervisor Fleming and local officials to better understand how their towns and villages are navigating COVID-19," said Rep. Delgado. "I will keep urging Congressional leaders to come to an agreement that supports rural areas and includes funding for state and local governments as well as my bipartisan Direct Support for Communities Act so these federal dollars reach every single locality, regardless of size."
Earlier this month, Rep. Delgado voted to pass the updated Heroes Act, which included his Small Business Debt Relief Extension Act to automatically extend repayment measures for qualified SBA loans, as well as his Prioritized Paycheck Protection Program or P4 Act, which allows the hardest hit businesses to apply for additional PPP funding. The bill also incorporated Rep. Delgado's Direct Support for Communities Act. This legislation creates a distribution formula for state and local funding to ensure that all localities receive direct federal support.
