HIS NEW LEGISLATION TO CHANGE THE MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PROGRAM
1/30/2006
Congressman Bernie Sanders will be introducing new legislation tomorrow to significantly improve the Medicare Prescription drug bill that millions of seniors are having so much trouble coping with. Sanders said:
"The current Medicare Prescription drug bill, which was pushed by the President and the Republican Leadership and was essentially written by the pharmaceutical industry, has been a nightmare for seniors throughout Vermont and America. In my office the phones were ringing off the hook. The legislation that I will introduce tomorrow will do several things: First, it will greatly simplify the program and make it a traditional Medicare program which will be user friendly. Further, by allowing the government to negotiate prices with the drug companies, which is actually prohibited in this bill, we can significantly strengthen the benefits for seniors as well lower the cost to taxpayers."
