Representative John Rose (TN-6) released the following statement after opposing the Rules Package put forth by House Democrats for the 117th Congress:
"Today, I opposed the House Rules Package for the 117th Congress put forward by House Democrats. This proposal contradicts American values by attempting to silence the voice of the minority party and laying the groundwork for House Democrats' costly socialist policies.
"The package also targets President Trump and Vice President Pence as it contains language that allows House committees to subpoena any current or former president and vice president, including current and former white house staffers. For the past two years, House Democrats have continuously attacked President Trump and the language included in this package indicates that they intend to continue to do so into the next Congress.
"Even with this attempt to limit our voice and the voices of those we represent, I will not stop fighting for what Tennesseans need -- elections we can trust, a government that puts fiscal responsibility first, and a Congress that is actually governed "by the people.'
"I oppose this effort by House Democrats and will continue to fight for freedom and to protect our Constitution."
