108,000 Jobs Added in December
Diaz-Balart Praises Republican Policies for Continued Job Growth
WASHINGTONThe Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today that 108,000 jobs were created in December, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.9 percent. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) heralded Republican policies for helping fuel the 31 straight months of job growth.
"Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and Republican policies help these job creators have the opportunity to expand and succeed. Despite our sustained economic successes, Democrat leadership continues to endorse policies - like higher taxes - that would end our nation's remarkable job growth. Democrat leadership may be pessimistic about our country's economy, but I believe our nation is strong and getting stronger."
Since the President signed the Jobs & Growth Act in May of 2003, 698,900 jobs have been created in Florida. Florida families are benefiting from the economic growth as personal income in Florida rose 1.5 percent from the second to third quarters of 2005 - fourth best in the nation. Also, at 3.6 percent, the unemployment rate for Florida is one of the lowest in modern history.
