Luján Statement on New Mexico Reaching 100,000 Covid-19 Cases

Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, issued the following statement on New Mexico surpassing 100,000 COVID-19 cases and more than 1,620 COVID-19 deaths:

"As New Mexico experiences a dangerous surge of COVID-19, we have reached an unthinkable milestone -- more than 100,000 New Mexicans have been infected with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and more than 1,620 have died. This virus will continue ravaging our communities if we do not work together to stop the spread. Our actions can save lives if we stay home when possible, wear face coverings in public, and practice social distancing. I know that, as New Mexicans, we have it in us to take these lifesaving precautions to protect our loved ones and prevent our hospitals and health care workers from being overwhelmed.

"From the beginning of this pandemic, I've worked in Congress to deliver relief for families, small businesses, and local, state, and Tribal governments on the front lines of fighting this virus. It's past time the American people get the additional relief they need to weather the darkest days of this pandemic. I'm heartened by the good faith efforts by senators on both sides of the aisle to pass relief measures before the end of year, and I urge Mitch McConnell to end his obstruction and come back to the negotiating table."
