Kaine Statement on Firing of Secretary Esper

Statement

Date: Nov. 9, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, released the following statement on the firing of Secretary of Defense Mark Esper:

"Secretary Esper has served this nation honorably despite the many challenges posed by this President. This country owes a significant debt of gratitude to Secretary Esper and the countless public servants at DOD that will have to work in the tumultuous remaining weeks ahead of the Trump presidency. Firing a Secretary of Defense in the last weeks of a lame duck Presidency serves no purpose and only demonstrates an instability harmful to American national defense."
