Issue Position: A Quality Education -- Key to Our Children's Future

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Every child, regardless of the zip code they live in, has the right to have access to a quality education. Educational decisions should be made at the local level based on what parents and communities want for their children. Yes, standards are necessary, but I will push for action on reducing state testing and giving teachers and parents just-in-time access to results so that they can be used to impact student learning during the current school year. I will also work to help solve the decades-old problem of inequitable educational funding in our state so that every child in every community receives the education they need to succeed - from preschool to 12.

Continuing education into our adult years is also key. I will work with state and local educational and business/industry leaders to increase pathways to affordable education and skills training, which in turn helps ensure people have access to higher paying jobs and more options to support themselves and their families.
