Issue Position: Support our Police Officers, First Responders, & Military Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

My re-election campaign is honored to be endorsed by the KY Fraternal Order of Police. I was proud to sponsor a bill during the 2020 session that sought to protect line-of-duty death benefits for spouses of fallen officers, even if those spouses remarry. I have been a member of the Kentucky State Police myself and I will always support our local police officers. Defund the police? Kentucky already spends the LOWEST amount per capita in the entire nation on police. It is past time we invest in our public safety measures if we hope to see real change.

First responders are also a huge credit to our communities and they don't often receive the funding they should. Considering we rely on them in emergencies, I saw fit to aid their important work. I sponsored a bill in 2020 that allows funds collected from wireless providers to be used to fund all 911 services.

I would like to thank the brave men & women in our military for their dedication and fortitude as they work to protect our communities from harm. I do my best to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives in the line of duty, in the name of service above self. There is always more work to be done to support our veterans, but I continue to be proud of our Commonwealth as we work to prioritize our servicemen and women. As of 2020, all four Kentucky Veterans Centers were awarded Bronze National Quality Awards for their dedication to our veterans.
