Issue Position

I was humbled to receive a Step Up for Kids award from Kentucky Youth Advocates in 2020. The award was presented for my work with the School Safety Working Group to improve the safety and well-being of our students. I will keep working to strengthen education for our children. A healthy classroom makes for a healthy workforce down the road.

High school graduation rates and income rates are the greatest challenges for Kentucky. We know that education increases our residents' chances to contribute to our community and access proper healthcare. Some of the schools in our district struggle with child homelessness. Other schools struggle to keep classrooms safe, both for the teachers and children.

Improvements are being made by the many hardworking groups located in Eastern Kentucky. The Kentucky College of Optometry is a great example of this, having recently become accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. This was a crucial step forward for the college and something that should make us all proud!
