Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) today released the following statement after President Donald J. Trump announced the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States. The Constitution grants the President the power to nominate justices and gives the Senate the responsibility to provide advice and consent on Supreme Court nominees:
"I congratulate Judge Amy Coney Barrett on her nomination to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Judge Barrett's impressive body of jurisprudence exemplifies a legal philosophy rooted in upholding the Constitution, the bedrock of our nation. I'm confident she will prove to be an effective justice committed to serving the American people and rule of law. I hope my colleagues in the Senate will fulfill their constitutional duties by advancing full hearings and voting on the qualifications of President Trump's nominee."
