Statement of the Hon. Rosa L. DeLauro

Closing of the Winchester Plant of U.S. Repeating Arms

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Congresswoman Rosa. L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today issued the following statement on the closure of the Winchester Plant of the U.S. Repeating Arms Company.

"Nearly every New Haven family will be touched by the closure of the Winchester Plant. For generations, this factory provided opportunities to our community, first to the immigrants that helped form our region, and now to an entire class of skilled laborers. In fact, my own mother worked at Winchester during World War II.

"The entire New Haven community banded together to prevent this closure, hoping that this situation would be resolved amicably for both the employees and the company. As the process of closing this plant goes forward, my office will focus its efforts on ensuring the skilled laborers displaced by this closure are treated fairly and that the city recovers from the loss to our manufacturing base."
