DeGette: Republicans Acting Like the Grinch Who Stole Christmas

WASHINGTON, DC - Democratic Chief Deputy Whip Diana DeGette (D-CO) slammed GOP leadership and the Republican controlled Congress for enacting yet another round of tax breaks for the wealthy few, at the expense of middle class families.

"It is obvious by the spending cuts passed last month and tax breaks for the rich pushed through today, the Republican's priorities are to protect the very wealthy at the expense of hard working families," said Rep. DeGette. "Like the Grinch Who Stole Christmas I am afraid the Majority's hearts are two sizes too small this holiday season," she added.

The Republican tax bill gives more tax breaks to the wealthy few, paid for with spending cuts harming seniors, college students, and children among others. They voted to cut Medicaid by more than $11 billion and raised costs to the average student borrower by $5,800, while reducing child support collections by $24 billion.

"Together, America can do better than more tax breaks for the wealthy few, financed through spending cuts that harm those who need help most and saddling our children and grandchildren with even more debt," added Rep. DeGette.
