Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García issued the following statement on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision in support of the Trump Administration's efforts to end Temporary Protected Status:

"I am extremely disappointed by the 9th Circuit Court's decision to side with the Trump Administration to end the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for people from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti and Sudan. This is devastating news for hundreds of thousands of people who have lived and worked in the United States for many years and for the over 200,000 US-born children who will also be affected. Just in my state, approximately 1,000 children have Salvadoran parents who are TPS holders. But these are not just numbers -- these are health care workers, farmworkers, and other essential workers who have kept this country running and risk their lives everyday amid the pandemic.

"TPS has provided safety and security for people who fled war and natural disasters in their native countries and has given them a chance to start businesses, raise families and contribute to our economy without fear of deportation. While TPS will not be terminated until at least March 2021, the legal path ahead for most is uncertain. We urge the Senate to pass H.R. 6, The Dream and Promise Act, which would put TPS holders on a path to citizenship."
