Kentucky to Receive Another $14 Million for Housing Assistance from McConnell's CARES Act

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announced today communities across Kentucky received an additional $14,017,978 for housing assistance during the coronavirus pandemic. The federal funding, distributed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), was made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Senator McConnell introduced the CARES Act, which became the largest economic rescue package in American history, and led it to enactment in about a week.

"Families across our Commonwealth are struggling to make ends meet during this pandemic, and I'm proud my CARES Act continues to deliver much needed housing assistance to them," said Senator McConnell. "As Senate Majority Leader, I ensured this historic rescue legislation directs urgent relief to Kentucky communities. I'll continue working with my colleagues to provide additional resources to fight this virus and support Kentucky's economic comeback."

"Thanks to Senator McConnell," said Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton. "These additional funds will help us ensure more of our citizens are able to stay in their homes during this crisis. Our City has also provided funds for housing assistance. Government is coming together to help citizens with basic needs."

"This pandemic has created hardships on many families who live in our community," said Boyd County Judge Executive Eric Chaney. "We are beyond grateful to Senator McConnell for making sure those citizens were at the top of his priority list when drafting the CARES Act. His leadership was vital to get these families the assistance they need."

These federal funds, awarded through HUD's Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Regular Voucher Programs, are the latest assistance for vulnerable Kentuckians from the CARES Act. So far, Senator McConnell's historic rescue legislation has delivered more than $112 million for housing assistance and development programs in Kentucky.

In addition to these federal funds, the CARES Act has had a $12 billion impact in Kentucky so far. Senator McConnell's legislation has delivered $3.9 billion in relief to address urgent housing, transportation, healthcare, education and economic development priorities. Kentucky small businesses, farmers, and nonprofits accessed more than $5.2 billion in assistance through 50,000 PPP loans. Kentucky families have also received more than $3.8 billion in Economic Impact Payments from the U.S. Treasury.
