Mr. CARTER of Georgia. Madam Speaker, I rise today to congratulate the USS Tennessee, which is based at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay in the First District of Georgia, for winning the 2020 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Afloat Environmental Award.

The SECNAV environmental programs recognize Navy and Marine Corps ships, installations, and people for outstanding performance in promoting environmental stewardship.

These programs are important for achieving national defense strategy by taking a proactive role in enhancing mission effectiveness through the implementation of environmental programs.

Additionally, they have allowed for expanding mission requirements, protecting and improving the environment, avoiding and reducing future liabilities, and building trust with partner nations.

This is not the first time USS Tennessee has been honored for its success. In 2014, they won the SECNAV Award for Excellence in Submarine Safety, and they also won the Chief of Naval Operations Environmental Awards in submarine category in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

USS Tennessee's leadership and crew has demonstrated sustained commitment and success in environmental protection because of their emphasis on the importance of each Sailor's role in environmental conservation. I am thankful for the entire crew's commitment to both serving our country and protecting our environment.
