LaHood Announces Over $1.8 Million in Education Grants to Support Low-Income Students in IL18

Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-18) announced today that the U.S. Department of Education awarded colleges in Illinois' 18th Congressional District $1,859,344 to support low-income students seeking a college degree through the Student Support Services (SSS) program.

"Education is critical to the success of our communities across central and west-central Illinois," said Rep. LaHood. "I am pleased to announce this funding for colleges in the 18th District that will provide important resources to disadvantaged low-income and first-generation college students working hard to get a quality education. I applaud the Trump Administration for directing these resources to our community."

Background:

The purpose of the SSS Program, one of eight TRIO programs, is to provide academic and other support services to low-income, first-generation or disabled college students to increase students' retention and graduation rates, facilitate their transfer from two-year to four-year colleges and foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income and first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities.
