U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) today issued the following statement regarding the space shuttle Columbia tragedy:

"It is certainly a sad day for all Americans. My heart goes out to the seven astronauts and their families. Their bravery, their spirit of adventure and their dream of expanding the bounds of human knowledge will live in our hearts for all time."
