Gianforte Celebrates the Great American Outdoors Act Becoming Law

Congressman Greg Gianforte today praised President Trump for signing the Great American Outdoors Act into law.

"The Great American Outdoors Act, which I proudly supported, provides dedicated, lasting resources to increase public access to our public lands, conserving them for generations to come," Gianforte said. "I thank Senator Daines for his leadership in getting this historic bill across the finish line, and I thank President Trump for his support of our public lands and for signing this critical bill into law."

When the U.S. House of Representatives considered the Great American Outdoors Act two weeks ago, Gianforte spoke on the House floor encouraging lawmakers to join him in voting for the measure. Montana and national conservation groups praised Gianforte for his leadership and support of the Great American Outdoors Act.

Background:

On June 16, 2020, Gianforte announced his support of the Great American Outdoors Act.

In the 115th Congress, Gianforte sponsored and voted for legislation to permanently reauthorize LWCF and address the maintenance backlog of the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Bureau of Indian Education.

According to the National Park Service, the maintenance backlog for national parks totals nearly $12 billion. Deferred maintenance for national parks in Montana totals nearly $190 million, including more than $130 million for Glacier National Park and more than $22 million for Yellowstone National Park.

In August 2018, President Trump signed into law Gianforte's bill to protect the East Rosebud Creek as part of the Wild and Scenic River System, making it the first waterway in Montana since 1976 to receive the classification. It was Gianforte's first bill to be signed into law.

In March 2019, President Trump signed into law Gianforte's bill to protect 30,000 acres of public land in the Paradise Valley. Gianforte joined President Trump in the Oval Office for the bill signing.
