Correa Votes To Protect Travelers and Improve Ride Share Safety

Today, Congressman Lou Correa (CA-46) voted to support new legislation to increases the safety of travelers while using rideshare services. H.R. 4686 -- Sami's Law requires ride-share drivers to display scannable technology to provide an added layer of security for travelers.

Rep. Correa said, "Ride-sharing services are common and convenient tools for travelers and commuters. Unfortunately, they are also susceptible to unscrupulous individuals looking to prey on unexpecting patrons. Sami's law enacts a small, commonsense change that will help protect our safety and peace of mind while using ride-share services."

Background: H.R. 4686 -- Sami's Law would require ridesharing company drivers to prominently display lighted signs and a scannable QR code as a safety regulation in light of issues tied to the ride-sharing service. The bill would criminalize the misrepresentation of being a driver of a ride-sharing service nation-wide. The bill was named for a South Carolina college student named Samantha Josephson who became one of the victims who used the service, but went into an imposter vehicle and was killed by the driver.
