Graves Celebrates House Passage Of Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)

Statement

Today, the Water Resources Development Act of 2020 (WRDA) was passed by the full House of Representatives. Introduced earlier this month by House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Sam Graves (MO-06) and his colleagues on the Committee, the bill is critical for flood control, navigation, ports, locks, dams, and other water resources infrastructure.

"This bill is vital for advancing flood risk reduction projects, helping rural communities to better address their flood control needs, and empowering communities in building more resilient infrastructure after disasters," said Ranking Member Graves. "In addition, WRDA provides navigation improvements for America's ports and inland waterways system that will help grow the economy and create jobs. I am proud to cosponsor this bipartisan bill, and I strongly support the infrastructure improvements it will bring to North Missouri and the rest of the country."

The bipartisan legislation was unanimously approved by the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure earlier this month.

It contains many important provisions to North Missouri including expanding work on a Lower Missouri River Basin Flood Risk and Resiliency Plan, changes to the PL 84-99 non-federal levee program to enhance flood protection, further prohibition of Interception-Rearing Complex's (IRC's), and changes to the Inland Waterways Trust Fund cost-share which would help make repairs and upgrades to locks and dams on the Mississippi River, along with several other provisions critical to flood control and navigation.
