Location: Hyde Park, NY

Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) announced the Roosevelt Fire District in Dutchess Country will receive a federal grant of more than $70,000 through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). These funds, appropriated through the bipartisan CARES Act, will allow the Roosevelt Fire District to buy supplemental Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure that the firefighters can protect the local community as safely and effectively as possible.

"The brave men and women of the Roosevelt Fire District run towards danger every day and I am proud to announce more than $70,000 in federal funding to help the department buy improved PPE and keep them safe while fighting fires," said Rep. Antonio Delgado. "I will continue to fight to ensure our fire departments across New York's 19th Congressional District have needed protection and resources to ensure their safety. I look forward to visiting the Roosevelt Fire District soon and seeing the impact of this grant first hand."

"The Roosevelt Fire District is fortunate to have Congressman Delgado representing the Town of Hyde Park. The items we purchase with these AFG funds will be used to protect our members who respond to those in need during this pandemic, being Emergency Medical Calls, auto accidents or any alarm were dispatched to. Our rescue squad has responded to hundreds of alarms using the minimum gear we had and with the added funds we can now purchase much better personal protective equipment to be used. The members of Roosevelt are dedicated men and women who volunteer their time and put themselves in harm's way to protect our residents and visitors every time the alarms go out," said Lew Darrow, Chief of Department, Roosevelt Fire District.

The Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Assistance to Firefighters Grant -- COVID-19 Supplemental Program (AFG-S) provides funds for the purchase of PPE and related supplies for our nation's first responders during the coronavirus (COVID- 19) response. Through this funding opportunity, FEMA directly awards funding for PPE and other supplies to fire departments, State Fire Training Academies (SFTAs), and nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services (NAEMS) organizations to support first responders with COVID-19 response. AFG-S is authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Additional information can be found here.
