Letter to William J. Flynn, President and CEO of Amtrak - Gianforte to Amtrak: Reverse Cuts in Service Along the Hi-Line

Letter

Date: June 26, 2020
Issues: Transportation

Dear Mr. Flynn

Thank you for your hard work during these challenging times. I write to you today to urge you to reconsider the reduction in service for the Empire Builder Line starting October 1, 2020.

On June 17, 2020, Amtrak announced it would cease daily service on multiple national routes starting October 1, 2020. Reliable access to rail service is important for communities along the Hi-Line. Not only is passenger rail an economic driver for the state, it is also an affordable travel alternative. Reduced service threatens the connectivity of Montana's rural communities.

I understand that the economic stress from the pandemic creates new challenges for Amtrak. However, I request that you reconsider a reduction in service as a solution to these challenges. Thank you for consideration of my request.

Sincerely,
