As of the summer of 2020 almost 40 million Americans filed for unemployment. After the Obama administration pulled our nation out of the Great Recession and provided Donald Trump the groundwork for a thriving economy that could be built even stronger, our current President has chosen to favor the wealthy and well-connected over the American middle-class. He's done this through his 2017 tax law, which helped billionaires pay less than small business owners and working families. His complete and total blundering of the COVID-19 pandemic has erased the job gains from the Obama years and plunged millions of families into uncertainty and unnecessary stress. Even much of Trump's coronavirus aid tax cuts helped the rich over the middle-class.
In addition to fixing the avoidable havoc that COVID-19 and our nation's unacceptable response to the pandemic has brought, we must continue to invest in our infrastructure, re-shore manufacturing jobs, support pro-worker trade policies, provide incentives to small businesses that encourage growth and expansion, and look ahead to the future and help our nation lead the way on a global green-collar job market.
The opportunity to work hard, raise a family and save for retirement has slipped out of reach for far too many Americans. We must enact policies that allow those that work for a living the tools they require to ensure the next generation has as much promise and potential as possible.
