Issue Position

President Barack Obama once said that "climate change is no longer some far-off problem; it is happening here, it is happening now." In 2020 alone, we have seen the effects of climate change such as devastating Australian wildfires or the more frequent flooding within the United States. Not only is fighting climate change our top global security threat as identified by the Pentagon, it will also bring stable and good paying jobs to the United States and the Capital Region.

As the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change, I have stood up against the Trump White House and its obstruction of our goal of a cleaner future with good paying jobs. I've taken former EPA head Scott Pruitt to task on his misuse of taxpayer dollars and putting polluters over people. Along with my my work on the Natural Resources and Science Committees, my team and I have positioned ourselves as a primary architect of climate policy in Congress. To that end, I've released my Principles of Action on Climate Change, which you can read here. We also released a discussion draft of the CLEAN Future Act, a bill that lays out very specific pathways to achieve 100% clean energy no later than 2050.

More than 600,000 clean energy workers have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I have urged that the federal government step in and help ensure we rebuild quicker, smarter and cleaner than before. You can read the latest here.
